Light & Interactivity: Week 3 Observation Assignment

 Observation Assignment: Late morning, interior.
Time 11:58am. Feb 15. La Guardia Airport

The structure of the building (high ceiling and floor to ceiling windows) allow direct sunlight to enter with high intensity. With the sun hitting with such force one would think there is no other light in that space besides the sun but there are thousands of standard Linear T8 LED Tube Light 3000K Soft White Fluorescent across the airport.

Something that came to my mind was the quality of the glass and whether there was some UV protection. In a New York winter day when the temperature is 18° direct sunlight seems like a blessing  But in this case an indoor interaction with the light seems incongruous between the airport heating system and the heat generated by the sun the effects are of a bracing heat.

What is the role of bias in creating technological tools? I think using technological tools is one of the easiest ways to access a larger demographic therefore it should be created by All TYPES of people. For the past 20 years we have become more and more dependent on the information we consumed and exchange in a tech environment. Bias is real and it wasn't until less than a decade ago that the conversation about bias and the impact on people life's started to become more of a central topic. Now more than ever we need to give tools to people that otherwise don't have a voice in development of said technologies. Also understanding that Bias cannot disappear from one day to another, it a long process and we need to keep the conversation and education going.
