Light & Interactivity : Light/Health Research (Langone)

Last Tuesday I had to do a quick visit to Langone, it was the perfect opportunity to do some research.
After filling up some forms I had to wait on the chairs by the long corridor, it was 3:45pm on a rainy February day, there were windows on the hallway but it was cloudy. The photos made the sky look darker.
The environment wasn't stressful but it wasn't soothing, the hallway was not overly crowded and the light was the typical white light fluorescent that many hospitals have.

The wait wasn't so long after 10 minutes on the hallway a nurse called me to go into another small waiting room. The nurse instructed me to get ready for the x-ray and to wait to be called to go into the actual Xray room. The waiting room was around 4x6ft it felt a little claustrophobic, there was 1 fluorescent light tube. I was in the hospital for a quick checkup nothing serious and nothing that could result into life changing news. But I can see how this space can put patients into anxiety mode.

After five minutes in the waiting room, I was called to the X-ray room, the only light available was by the sink. The light made me felt unease, it was grim and eerie. The X ray machine was intimidating as well. I chatted with the nurse and she told me a lot of patients were not 100% comfortable with the light environment and some patients going into MRIs would often go on full nervous break downs.

Most of the patients waiting in the corridor were over 75 years old, but I think most of the X-rays are done in that section.
