Light & Interactivity : Week 7 Floor Fixture (Floor Entrance) Research part I

Initial Feedback (Feb16)
"Because there was the light front the screen as well as that over headlight, I felt like there were many different color hues shining my way which after time used to give me headaches."

Feb25
Emma, Christina and I had a call to discuss some ideas around working around the space.

March 2
Using a Sekonic C-800 Spectrometer Christina and I measure the light.

MARCH 2nd

We dim the light on the main hallway, we understand that is a safety hazard to keep the main hallway without the proper lighting. After a few trials, we reached a point were the overhead light seemed comfortable, Christina was sitting in front of the screen so the screen behind is not showing in the reading. The image on the left shows the Spectrometer reading with the new lighting setup (CCT 3518). However on the right the spectrometer shows the white abrasive light from the screen in the background, for the second photo we used move the spectrometer to the left side of the table, the screen luminosity hit directly on the table(5608k).

The screen was displaying black text with a white background. It was blinding and certainly unhealthy to the circadian rhythm.

Small changes to decrease the over luminosity in the space.

Using diffuser for the overhead lights on top of the desk would significantly increase the lighting environment for the person sitting on the desk.

Overhead light measurements

Beside the light coming from the back screen there are some touchscreens across the desk, which add another layer of direct light towards the person sitting in the desk.

Switching the screens would with non luminous pieces would help the overall experience of sitting in entrance desk.
